STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY  ·  COEUR D'ALENE, ID

You are not unphotogenic.

You have simply never been photographed properly.

Portraits, headshots and personal branding photography for people who have built something and have no picture that shows it. Planned before the session. Directed the whole way through. Chosen with you, on the screen, before you leave.

The photograph you are using now

Nobody planned it. That is the whole problem.

Somebody took it in about ninety seconds. At a conference, against a hotel curtain. Or a friend took it in good light four summers ago. Or it is cropped out of something else and you have never liked it.

It is on your website. It is on your card. It is the first thing a stranger sees before deciding whether you are worth twenty minutes.

The last photograph you actually like of yourself is fifteen years old. You still use it. You crop it a little tighter every year.

It stopped being true a long time ago, and you have been quietly hoping nobody looks at it closely.

WHAT IT COSTS TO LEAVE IT

An old photograph is not neutral. It is working against you.

01

It shows up every time you comment, every connection request, every time someone searches your name. It works around the clock, and it is out of date.

02

People meet the photograph before they meet you, and they arrive with an impression you did not choose and cannot correct.

03

You keep declining to send it. The speaking invitation, the panel, the press request, all of it gets a little harder because there is nothing to send.

Another four years pass. The gap between the woman in the picture and the woman you have become gets wider, and it starts to feel too late to fix.

I photograph women who apologise before I have taken a single frame.

Almost everyone who sits down in my studio tells me they hate being photographed. It is nearly always the same thing underneath. Nobody has ever told them what to do.

You will be directed the entire time. Where to put your weight, what to do with your hands, where to look. Nobody is going to tell you to relax and then leave you standing there wondering whether you are doing it wrong.

I came here from Ukraine and rebuilt everything, including who I was. I know exactly what it is to be looked slightly past. It is not a theory I read about.
